No event has had a more chilling impact on modern world history than the Holocaust during World War II. However, over the past fifteen years the world has witnessed acts of genocide that many observers say parallel, at least in part, the horrors that took place under the direction of the German Nazis.
Join SDSU’s Nasatir Chair in Modern Jewish History, Dr. Lawrence Baron, and the co-directors of Chico State’s Center for Excellence in the Study of the Holocaust, Genocide, Human Rights, and Tolerance, Dr. Carol Edelman and Dr. Sam Edelman, in a full-day workshop that focuses on teaching about the Holocaust and genocide. Professor Baron will present “Teaching the Holocaust with Feature Films,” and Professors Sam and Carol Edelman will focus on “The Holocaust and Moral Decision Making.” The day will include discussions about curriculum for use in your classroom, and conclude with a book talk by Michael Bart, author of Until Our Last Breath: A Holocaust Story of Love and Partisan Resistance.
Due to the subject area and limited space, this session is restricted to High School teachers only.
The History/Social Studies Department will cover the cost of substitute teachers, and provide lunch and a copy of Mr. Bart’s book for each teacher.
